I strongly suggest watching Dan Woralls video from the first post, it's a good indicator of the things possible with Saturn. The creative sound mangling you can do with it is icing on the cake.
Distortion and saturation play a very important role in music production. I realise I'm coming across as a total fanboy but I don't usually get excited about this sort of thing, it really is just incredibly flexible, versatile and musical. FabFilter Saturn (Download) is a Clean & Warm Distortion & Saturation Plug-in. The list of plugins I use is already pretty small but I can see this plugin replacing a few of them. This can be used effectively for anything from analogue tape simulation to absolute sonic destruction, and performs very well with all types of material from single tracks to a master mix. Whilst not true compression technically, it can be used to even out audio with a similar result.Īll this before we even touch the saturation side of things. It can act as an automatic fader rider similar to Waves vocal rider, again by using the envelope follower modulation. It can easily replace any transient shaper with its 'dynamics' knob, and by using the included modulations like the envelope follower it is far more adjustable in this task than most dedicated plugins of this type. Not a complete list but it can act as an Eq, either broad, surgical or dynamic/level dependant. Like others have said already, calling this a saturation plugin is an injustice because it's so much more than that. Bought it a few days ago and honestly, it's already become one of my most useful tools.
